Privet is a tough hedge plant that can tolerate most conditions, including seaside, poor soil and extreme cold. It makes a good plant for hedges in difficult areas and the berries are attractive to birds. It is semi-evergreen, in that it loses most leaves in extreme cold, but not all, and is therefore valuable as part of mixed hedgerow where it can provide useful nesting, shelter and berries. It is more vigorous than the Japanese privet (Ligustrum ovalifolium), which is more often used in cities and suburban gardens. Spacing is a matter of choice: for a quickl establishing hedge, plant up to 6 plants per metre in 2 staggered rows. Alternatively, plant 3-4 plants per metre in a single row.

  • Well rooted bare root plants.
  • 60-90 cms tall.
