The Bhutan pine is a gorgeous tree which can grow into a large, billowing specimen. There are some mature specimens growing in Mount Usher gardens in Ashford, Co Wicklow and also in the National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin, Dublin. Native to the Himalayas and Bhutan, it prefers well-drained soil, which is neutral or acid, and is also suitable for growing near the sea. This tree can grow very large, but would also make an unusual plant for a large container on a balcony or rooftop. As with all pines, this tree is evergreen. This species has long, drooping needles, which are what give it its unique, soft appearance. Irish-grown, 3 litre container, 60-80cms.
