Populus nigra 'Italica'

Lombardy poplar, Italian poplar

Price: €4.95

The Lombardy poplar has a distinctive upright shape: it's a tall, fast-growing tree that is frequently used as a shelter-belt plant because of its shape. Tolerant of most soil types, including moist; it does not like to be constantly waterlogged however. It is a very hardy plant that grows ultmately up to 30 metres in height by 7-8 metres in width. Wind is not a problem for this plant, but it should not be right by the seaside. It is more suited to inland areas. Excellent autumn colour and good catkins / flowers in spring. Deciduous. 60-90cms plants in 1 2-3 litre container.
