Compact, vertical and evergreen - a most attractive conifer. This is one of only three conifers native to Ireland, along with Scot's pine and Yew. This much smaller tree is the least common, and could also be described as a vertical, evergreen shrub. It bears short needles and small, edible berries, which have been used to flavour gin for centuries, and the plant also has properties as an insect repellent. As a very slow growing tree, it is ideal for smaller gardens and rockeries where it will reach, after many years, a maximum height of 4 m x 40-50 cms wide. This tree prefers well-drained, shallow soil such as that found in sloping sites, containers or raised beds. Ideal for the low-maintenance smaller garden. 40-45 cms tall plants in a 3 L container.
