A plant whose leaves are used around the world as a sweetener - known as 'Sugar herb' or 'Sweetleaf'.  Stevia will grow well on a wide range of soils given a consistent supply of moisture and adequate drainage. Plants can reach up to 1 m or more in height. Stevia is grown as a perennial in subtropical regions but is best treated as an annual in Ireland if left outdoors. However, it is an ideal pot plant for a conservatory. To dry, hang small bunches of stems in a well-ventilated, dry area out of direct sun. Dried leaves may be ground into powder for storage. Fresh leaves can be used to make a liquid sweetener by steeping one teaspoonful of dried leaves in one cup of boiling water for 5-10 minutes. Bushy plants in a 2-3L container. Please note: although we keep good stock of herbs, the herbs displayed on this website may not be available in each of our shops at all times.
