Fagus sylvatica 40-60cms

Beech hedge (bare root 40-60cms)

Price: €1.75

A smaller sized bare root beech plant (40-60cms) that is more economical than the 60-90cms plants that we also offer. Fast and easy to plant, beech hedges are truly durable and very attractive. Clear, bright green leaves throughout the summer, turning yellow or russett in autumn, and staying on lower branches throughout the winter. Ideal as a specimen tree in a large garden, parkland or avenue, or as a practical, good-looking hedge. Tolerant of most soil types, but intolerant of waterlogged soils. Does not require shelter, but make sure it is securely staked for the first couple of years if planted in an exposed spot. Planting density: up to 5 plants per metre for smaller sizes down to 3 plants per metre for larger sizes. Better than hornbeam as a hedge in seaside locations, though less good than hornbeam in areas of damp or wet soil.  Read more on bare root plants...
