Arklow pottery, 32 piece set, 1950s
Couldn't load pickup availability
We came across this 32 piece Arklow set in its original packaging (too damp and grimy to save, sadly) along with a card dated 1958 and addressed on to "Gerry and Mabel" on their wedding. The set is complete and in perfect, unused condition. It is marked on each piece as 'Handpainted Erin Stone. Made in Arklow, Ireland'. Its a perfect example of mid-century modern Irish, combining hand-painted details with a colourful flower pattern.
Arklow pottery was one of Ireland's rare industries, operating between 1934-1998 in the town of Arklow, Co Wicklow. It exported around the world and managed to keep up-to-date with European design trends, despite Ireland's relative conservatism and isolation at the time. It employed up to 100 people at its peak.
