Drimys winteri / Winter's bark

An unusual, mid-size evergreen tree with glossy foliage and small white flowers in summer. The aromatic foliage has a wonderfully peppery flavour. Somewhere between a large shrub and a small tree, it requires quite a bit of space as it can grow up to 8 metres in width - ideal for a larger garden where a striking evergreen is required that won't end up too huge, like a Eucalyptus or some conifers. For most soil types, well-drained but not too dry, in sun or light shade.
