This atmospheric painting is titled 'November 'on the reverse.

Ethel Willis was a London artist, trained at the Royal College of Art and the Slade School of fine Art, as well as the Académie Delecluse in Paris. Her father was a successful tea merchant and grocer, as well as an avid art collector, which must be how her interest in art began.

From 1900 to around 1939, she exhibited at the Paris Salon, the Royal Academy in London, the Walker Gallery in Liverpool and with the Society of Women Artists. She was also a highly regarded miniaturist, and was an Associate of the Rotal Sociery of Miniature Painters (A.R.M.S.). Although highly respected exhibitor during her lifetime, with works in major galleries in London, Paris, Glasgow and Liverpool, her work is not in any 'major' collections. Like many women artists of that period, today she is relatively unknown.

In its original gilt frame, with gallery stickers and artist's address.
