Louise Cherry, Sea Sanity III
Painted during a period of recovery from a broken leg, when she was recommended by doctors to swim regularly. Louise Cherry, who lives beside the sea in Wicklow, found this daily contact with the sea - right in the middle of lockdown - to be inspiring, calming and to restore 'sanity' to a complicated world. As she says in her own words, 'in these paintings I want people to feel what I experience while in the sea, to feel as though they are also diving in, to feel fresh, happy and free...'
Louise runs a gallery in Wicklow Town, operates an art space dedicated to the enjoyment and education of art for children, and has lecturered on photography at Dunlaoghaire Institute of Art, Design and technology (IADT).
This is a large painting, requiring a big space to accommodate it: it is 100 x 100cm, a large, multi-textured and shimmering canvas, with innumerable complexities when looked at closely. There is an unmistakable lightness and exuberance.... could these be grasses on the seashore or dancing seaweed on the sea floor?
Oil on canvas, 100 x 100cm excluding frame. Framed.Artworks can be viewed and purchased in our Clare Street shop. If ordered online, delivery is €20.00 nationwide (Ireland). Overseas shipping is available on request.
