Anonymous artist, Sancta Maria Virgo (19th century)
This isn't our usual 'landscape, Dublin history or plants' fare, but we love it nonethless for its fine quality and vibrant colours. Beautifully detailed face, hair, fabric and hands on this young, fresh-faced virgin Mary. Dating from the Victorian period, the painting has a few marks to the paint, and the frame is chipped. The halo is picked out in Gold leaf
Various stickers on the reverse are hard to make out, but some details can be made out such as on the canvas 'GEO. ROWNEY & Co, 64 Oxford Street, Picadilly' and 'Bible Brothers, Carvers, Gilders and Engravers....'
Image size: 29cm x 25cm. Framed under glass. Frame is chipped, as shown.
