Anonymous, Haystacks

Like many beautiful artworks, this piece is unsigned and anonymous. Based on the subject, style, paper and the frame it came in, we think it is from the early years of the 20th century.

Haystacks in a field, woodland in the distance, a brooding sky. It's a late summer landscape, or harvest time. Beause of the shape of the haystacks, we’re unsure whether this is in Ireland. Iit could be a France, Belgium or Northern Germany. On the rear of this painting we found the charming drawing of a red-roofed cottage, shown below.

Gouache on paper. 34 x 26cm. Newly unframed with archival quality mounting and UV protective, non reflecting glass. The painting on the reverse (cottages with red roofs) is not visible.
