Anonymous, Portrait of a Young Lady

Portrait of a beautiful young woman, late 19th century or early 20th century. Her expression is intelligent and thoughtful, her pale cheeks are flushed, her auburn hair is pulled back. Looking directly at the artist, her blue-grey shawl is draped loosely around her, a soft mass of feathers or light wool. The backgound is a sketchy haze. 62 x 51cm. In the style of William Orpen or his circle, the work is unfortunately unsigned. The artist and the sitter remain a mystery.
