According to the Royal Academy: "This poster for the Royal Academy's 1974 Summer Exhibition features a design by Betty Swanwick RA (1915-1989) and Gordon House. It remains one of the most popular of the Summer Exhibition posters among both Academicians and staff. The ghosts of Sir Joshua Reynolds pra and Angelica Kauffman ra stand enraptured by a contemporary abstract painting, while in the distance people throng a portrait of the Queen on horseback. Swanwick was among the many artists who started their careers by designing posters for London Transport and Shell-Mex."
