Inga Ryan, Woodland Path
Inga Ryan, Woodland Path
For many Dubliners, a walk in the woods of the Dublin mountains is a weekend ritual. Many of the woods are planted with Sitka spruce, a fast-growing non-native softwood that has economic benefits but is also the source of contoversy for its dominance over other species. A walk in the woods leads to dramatic patches of lightness and darkness, a mossy underworld and hidden and revealed views. This painting captures that lightness and darkness perfectly, reflecting the beauty and calmness of such places as well as hinting at its productive side.
Inga Ryan is a Dublin artist whose work, in her own words, 'pays homage to beauty found in the commonplace'.
