Isabel Odell (1871 -1943), The Blue Pot
Isabel Odell is a less-known Irish painter who, like many female contemporaries in the early years of the 20th century, studied abroad. In her case, she attended the Slade School of Art in London and the Academie Julian in Paris. Her work was exhibited in the Royal Hibernian Academy (R.H.A.) in the 1890s and she held a joint exhibition with her daughter Mary in the legendary 'Country Shop' on Stephen's Green in the early 1940s. Her work is rarely seen for sale, yet this painting demonstartes how talented an artist she was.
This painting captures the essence of early spring and the informal, natural beauty of the flowers. Oil on wood, 58 x 42cm, framed in dark hardood frame.
