Landscape painting, signed Joel Owen and dated 1929. Depicted is a rugged western landscape, probably Scotland, possibly Ireland. A touch of mist drifts from the mountain tops, while the pink-golden clouds suggest dusk.
Joel Owen is a mysterious artist whose try identity is unknown. In fact, the name 'Joel Owen' is probably a pseudonym. It is believed that whoever the true 'Joel Owen' was was the same person who used multiple other pseudonyms. It is often thought that they are the same person as 'F. E. Jamieson' and 'W. Richards', both of whom we have sold in our Clare Street location. In any case, regardless of the pseudonym used, this artist was highly popular in their day, with many of their works being reproduced.
Oil on canvas. 40 x 19cm excluding frame. Signed and dated bottom left. In original gilt frame.
Artworks can be viewed and purchased in our Clare Street shop. Overseas shipping is available on request.
