John Faulkner RHA (1835-1894), Fisherman in Wooded Valley

Romantic watercolour depicting a solitary fisherman in a dramatic wooded valley. It could well be somewhere in the Dublin or Wicklow mountains where he painted extensively in the 1850s and 1860s

John Faulkner was a well-exhibited landscape artist in his own lifetime, exhibiting and selling as far away as the United States in the late 1860s, the Royal HIbernian Academy in the 1860s and agin in the 1880s, and the Royal Academy in London in the late 1880s.
