Myra Kathleen Hughes (1877-1918), Botany Bay, Trinity College Dublin

Botany Bay square in Trinity College Dublin. Made in early years of the 1900s and exhibited in 1907. Young students cross the square in their gowns. Leafy trees cast a dappled shade on the ground. Myra Kathleen Hughes was an Irish artist who was a prominent and hightly regarded etcher. Like many women artists of that era, she trained and studied abroad. She exhibited in Dublin at the RHA and also in London. Her work is held in collections of Trinity College Dublin, the National Gallery in Dublin as well as the British Muuseum in London.

Etching, 28 x 18cm approx. Titles bottom right 'BOTANY BAY TCD' and initialled in shamrock form bottom right. Like most artworks listed, this piece is available and on display in our Calre Street, Dublin location.
