Landscape painting depicting dramatic mountains, infused with a blue-purple light. Knowing that Norah O'Kelly lived in Calcutta from approximately 1912 to 1918, and based on other works of hers that we have had, this must surely be a Himalayan landscape.

The little we know about Norah O'Kelly is that she was a student during the early years of the 20th Century at the Metropolitan School of Art in Dublin. In 1914, she was one of a small number of Irish people to exhibit at an exhibition of British Arts & Crafts at the Louvre, with a picturial plaque entitled An Aesop Fable. She spent several years in Calcutta from approx 1912 to 1918. She had four landscape pieces in the R.H.A. exhibition of 1916 that were damaged when the exhibition building was burned. Little is known of her later life, though it is believed she was teacher.

Watercolour on paper. Dimensions approx 32 x 24cm. Newly re-framed with archival mount and materials and UV protecting non-reflective glass. Artist's monogram / signature bottom left.
