Landscape oil painting of 'Scandal Point' (India) by Irish artist Norah O'Kelly. We were fortunate to have a number of pieces by this little-known artist, many of which date from the 2nd decade of the twentieth cetury when she lived in India as a young woman, recently graduated from the Metropolitan College of Art in Dublin.

Prior to the outbreak of the first world war (1914-1918) she travelled to India where she worked as an art teacher. She sent some of her work back to Ireland from Calcutta, for exhibition in the Royal Hibernian Academy, then located off O'Connell Street on Dublin's north-side. Records show that 'four landscape views of India' of hers were damaged or destroyed by a fire in that premises in 1916. This piece, we wonder, could perhaps be one of the works that were smoke damaged, because there is a dark film over the painting.

32 x 20 5cm excluding black hardwood frame. Artist's monogram (N.A.O.K.) bottom right. Titled on the rear. Oil on board.  Like most of the artworks on this website, this piece is on display in our Clare Street shop.
