Watercolour with pen-and-ink view from Merrion Square towards Clare Street, Trinity College and the Mont Clare hotel. Beautifully detailed, proportioned and coloured. Pete Hogan has captured the essence of this particularly fine view of Georgian Dublin. Howbert & Mays (it was Greene's bookship at the time of painting) is just out of sight around the corner on the south side of Clare Street. Oscar Wildes house is clearly visible on the corner or Merrion Square.
Pete Hogan is a Dublin artist whose street scenes and architectural drawings have documented Dublin life and architecture for almost four decades. He has sailed around the world and is also an accompoished maritime artist.
