Anonymous, Girls on the Grass
We can't help loving this painting. Two girls recline on grass with dappled sunlight around them. They are lost in thought, quietly talking.
We don't know anything about the artist or when this painting dates from. The artist has perfectly captured the essence of youthful intimacy and friendship. The breezy nature of the grass, the dappled shadows, their summery clothes and their gorgeous shoes all point to a glorious summer of long ago. Based on the style of their clothes and shoes, we think this painting dates from the 1940s or 1950s.
Oil on board, 43 x 35cm excluding frame. Paper collage on reverse. Unsigned.
