Arbutus unedo 'Compacta' / Compact strawberry tree
A compact variety of the Irish native 'Strawberry tree'. A small, glossy-leafed tree with pink-white pendulous flowers followed by red, ball-shaped fruit. This is a compact variety of one of Ireland's most exotic native Irish trees, which grows wild in south western parts of Ireland. It requires neutral to acidic soil and full sun to part shade. This plant would make an ideal specimen in a pot, using ericaceous (acidic) potting compost, as it is evergreen and will grow slowly. Beautiful red bark as the plant matures. Maximum height after 12 years 200-250cm. Flowers are attractive to bees.
An ideal tree for the smaller garden or for large pots and containers.
Irish grown plants, 7.5 litre container, 40-60cm in height.
