'Black Dragon' bamboo /Fargesia 'Black Dragon'

'Black Dragon' is a black-stemmed, green-leafed bamboo that is upright and airy. Medium-sized, it grows to a height of up to 3 metres. A good choice for an airy evergreen in light shade. Very hardy, but best out of high-windlocations. It has a clump-formiong root system that will stay confined to its clump.

It will reach its final height in approximately three years. Like other Fagesia bamboo, it forms a dense clump but does not send out 'invasive' underground rhizomes.

This bamboo grows in sun to light light shade and fertile, rich soil. Like most bamboos, it prefers shelter from highly exposed positions. For vigorous, healthy growth, we recommend adding some manure or 'Gee-up' around the base of the plant when planting. Keep watered after planting. Remove overcrowded canes and feed once or twoce per year with an organic fertiliser.

If planted in a container, use a substantial pot, using rich compost that includes manure as well as soil or John Innes compost. 

Plants are +/- 100cm tall, Irish-grown, 7 litre pots.
