Wonderful glossy purple berries make this one of the more unusual garden plants for autumn and early winter interest. The winter twigs with their unusual berries are highly prised by flower arrangers.
Callicarpa - also known as 'Beautyberry' - is a medium-sized shrub that grows to a maximum size of 3 metres high x 2 mitres wide, mading it a good choice for a smaller to medium-sized garden. It grows best in normal, fertile soil in sun or light shade. This particular variety, 'Profusion' produces berries without a companion plant. Leaves in spring are ornamental, with bronze-purple foliage, and there is good autumn colour also, before the leaves drop in late autumn. Water well when establishing and mulch the base of the plant with leaf-litter or well-rotted garden compost.
Substantial mature plants, Irish-grown, 140-150cm in height. 45 litre container.
