Embothrium coccineum / Chilean fire bush / Chilean flame tree

An unforgettable sight when in full flower in early summer. The Chilean fire bush is a much-prized large shrub / small tree. Evergreen foliage, long thin leaves and masses of scarlet flowers even at a young age, it can grow to an ultimate height of between 10 and 20 metres. Fast-growing, it requires moist but well-drained acidic to neutral soil, and does best in sheltered locations relatively near the sea. Further inland, it requires a sunny, sheltered location.

Irish-grown plants in a 3 litre pot, 50-60cm in height.
