Lough Arrow in County Sligo is the subject of this dramatic landscape, painted in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. Executed with wonderful clarity and detail, this work manages to capture an idealised, romantic landscape of the west of Ireland. There's not a person nor a building to be seen, just earth, sky and water.
Signed 'Jameson' or 'J.A.Jameson', this would appear to be the work of James Arthur Henry Jameson. James Arthur Henry Jameson was from the well-known Jameson family, distillers and whiskey makers. He was born in Donnybrook, Dublin, studied at Eton and Cambridge, and exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy and the Dublin Sketching Club.
Gouache on board, 28 x 16cm. Reframed with UV protective, low-reflection glass and acid-free mount and backing board.
