Watercolour by Dublin artist Margaret Stokes, 1915-1996. Titled (on the reverse) 'The Spinney', which is a small copse of wood that shelters game birds such as pheasants. Stokes specialised in depictions of trees, which this watercolour captures with great vibrancy.
Stokes was a well-regarded Dublin artist whose life spanned the majoroty of the 20th century. Known for her works in oil, watercolours and her prints. She was a niece of Mainie Jellet, who also taught her in her youth. She was an art teacher at Alexandra College and exhibited widely throughout her life.
23 x 16cm excluding frame. Signed botton right. Titled & dated 1987 on reverse. Newly reframed with non-reflective UV resistant glass and archival mounts.
