Maria Simonds Gooding, Dingle & Blasket etchings
We are lucky enough to have a number of signed, limited edition etchings by Maria Simonds Gooding. These pieces date mainly from the 1980s and 1990s and a highly prized. Etchings on acid-free paper, numbered individually with large borders.
The etchings depict aspects of the landscape around her home on the rugged coastline of Dún Chaoin, opposite the Blasket Islands, Co Kerry. Sensitive to the struggle of humans to survive in the harshest of natural environments, her work often focusses on 'difficult' or inhospitable landscapes, including the sea.
Maria Simonds-Gooding is represented in many collections, including the Irish Museum or Modern Art, Dublin and the Metropolitan Museum in New York. She has had a major retrospective in the Royal Hibernia Academy (RHA) in 2014, is a member of Aosdána and has been described as "one of Ireland's foremost painters and printmakers to have emerged since the Sixties"
