An unusual piece of work, this might be described as 'craft' rather than art. But what's the difference, and who cares? It's a skillful piece of work, brilliantly exectuted, with the wood grain carefully selected to represent folds in cloth, as well as light and shadows in the landscape. Historically interesting, as well as evocative of a bygone era, it shows a well-dressed gentleman relaxing on a farm gate, smoking a pipe, apparently with all the time iin the world to enjoy the landscape.

Most likely made in the early-to middle years of the 20th Century, it demonstrates a skill that has long since disapeared.

Signed bottom right. 29 x 38cm.  Made from inlaid hardwoods, fitted into a solid hardwood frame. Good condition, with little or no wear and tear. Coated with a thin layer of protective varnish. On the reverse are the words 'IRISH HANDWORK' and 'Time Enough in Connemara'.

Artworks are on display in our Clare Street shop. If purchased online, worldwide shipping can be arranged.
