Robert Cresswell Boak was a Donegal artist who settled in London in the late 1920s. Prior to that he exhibited a number of times with the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin. He produced a number of hand coloured, limited edition etchings of landscapes from around Ireland. Always meticulously detailed and finely executed, they provide something of a fascinating, though romanticised record of the Irish landscape in the early years of the twentieth century..

This landscape captures the 'Sweet Vale of Avoca', still a well-known beauty spot, made famous by the poem (and later song) written by Thomas Moore in the early 1800s.

There is not in the wide world a valley so sweet/ As that vale in whose bosom the bright waters meet.

Coloured etching on paper, 25 x 18cm excluding mount and frame. Excellent condition. Newly reframed and mounted in the original frame with archival backing board and mount. Original labels etc on the reverse, as shown. Signed bottom right.

Artworks can be viewed and purchased in our Clare Street shop. Overseas shipping is available on request.
